Charlie & Boo Ltd – Handmade Dog Accessories

Charlie & Boo was launched around four years ago, Charlie is my chocolate Labrador and Boo a basset hound. Sadly, in February 2018, we lost our beloved Boo, but every time I sew a logo label on I think of him. Charlie is now the big brother to my 18 month old Spanish Water Dog called Indie.

I live in a small village in Leicestershire with my husband and three children and of course Charlie and Indie.

When leaving school, I became a Fitness Instructor, this was my career for 25 years and is something that I am super proud of! In my last few years as an Instructor, I suffered numerous injuries, one of which was a stress fracture which left me in a cast for 6 weeks. Out of boredom… I purchased a sewing machine and so it began!

One day – after I had finished making a dress – I had a small amount of fabric left, Charlie was lying on the scrap fabric and as I asked him to move (how very polite!) I thought “I wonder if I could make a collar for him from it?” Yes, just like that, one of those light bulb moments you read about was conceived.
Very soon both Charlie and Bruno (Boo) were strutting around wearing a new collar and lead every week, bandanas soon followed and so did my first sale to a friend of mine.

That was that, I opened Charlie & Boo – Handmade Dog Accessories and started selling a range of collars, leads, bandanas and bow ties with beautiful designer fabrics.

I am very passionate about my business and it’s wonderful that I’ve been able to make it my full time job. Working out of a beautiful garden studio surrounded by stunning fabrics and accessories makes it a joy to go to work.
